The Championships - Day Twelve Diary

Boris Becker, who can be seen strolling around the All England Club – the scene of three triumphs in 1985-86 and 1989 – without an accreditation pass, writes in The Daily Telegraph, “Each of them [the four semi-finalists] will now be thinking that this is their year,” following the exit of Roger Federer. “They all knew that when Federer was at his best nobody could touch him, but the genius is out, and semi-finalists all have the same beliefs and the same chance. The favourite on paper is Rafael Nadal, but that is only on paper. It will simply come down to who can perform best when it matters most.”

Rafael Nadal uncle and coach, Toni Nadal, insists "Nadal’s problem is not the knees, it is [Andy] Murray… [who] is ready to win a Grand Slam. He is one of the best players and the best players win tournaments like Wimbledon. He is a talented player, one of the most talented on the ATP World Tour, and physically well prepared. He has a good serve, a good forehand, a good backhand and he can play in different ways. It will be a difficult match for Rafa."

According to Tomas Berdych's coach, Tomas Krupa, "in the Czech mentality, we need a little more time to be good," he told The Daily Telegraph. Borg, who quit tennis aged 25, told The Sun, "Maybe Roger will stop playing in 2011. He has already proved to the world what the world wanted to see. He is probably the best player we ever seen. To be honest, he has nothing more to prove to either us tennis fans or to himself."

A Buckingham Palace spokesman has announced, "The Queen is in Canada and is not due back in the country until 6 July as she is addressing the United Nation." Her Majesty visited Wimbledon for the first time in 33 years during the first week.

David Beckham, the former Manchester United and England footballer, will be a VIP guest on Centre Court for Andy Murray’s semi-final against Rafael Nadal.

Tim Henman, a four-time former Wimbledon semi-finalist, believes “For me the winner of this one probably goes on to win the tournament.” Speaking to The Daily Mail, the former World No. 4 said: “What it comes down to is that there are four guys left in the tournament and Andy has as good a chance as any of them to win it.”

With £1million on offer to the Wimbledon champion on Sunday, Murray told The Sun that "The prize money makes no difference at all. I'm sure if you told Roger Federer he could keep his six Wimbledon titles but had to give the prize money back, he would sign up for that every time. "If you asked all the people who've won Wimbledon, when they were serving for the match what were they thinking about, it's about the history and the prestige – not the money. It's great but it's just so far from being the most important thing."

Journalists have grown accustomed to taking an annual pilgrimage up to Dunblane, the birthplace of Murray, every time the Scot reached a Grand Slam championship final. The Dunblane Hotel has received “seven or eight calls” from media organisations. “We’ve already got reporters coming up to the pub to see the semi-final,” barmaid Jackie Petrie told The Daily Telegraph. “Every time Andy makes a final you’ll see reporters up and down the High Street. It’s a big thing for the town.”

A lot of the British national newspapers have written about why Murray is a Brit when he wins and a Scot when he loses. Brian Viner, a sports feature writer for The Independent, writes “When the Scottish golfer Sandy Lyle won the US Masters, everyone south of Gretna thought of him as a Brit. It was with tongues firmly in cheek that one red-top newspaper yesterday described Andy Murray as coming from the Home Counties, on the slightly flimsy basis that he now lives in Surrey, while another found more English antecedents than Scottish in the 23-year-old's family tree.”

Jeśli chodzi o mecz Nadala z Murrayem, to  zgadzam się z Dunem,że Nadal całkowicie Murraya .

Co do meczu Berdycha z Djokoviciem, na szczęście wygrał Czech, bo kaleczącego w tym sezonie Serba w finale widziec bym nie chciał.
