Retired Fabrice Santoro to play Australian Open
Recently-retired Fabrice Santoro has confirmed that he will take part in this month's Australian Open.
Santoro supposedly retired after the Paris Masters in November last year but has now changed decided to make an exception for the opening Grand Slam of the year.
The 37-year-old said he wished to "improve his participation record to 70 Grand Slams and become the first man to compete over four decades".
But Santoro was keen to stress that his participation in Melbourne "does not call into question my decision to end my career as a professional player on the ATP Tour".

A champion returns to centre court
Roger Federer’s twin daughters were probably amongst the less interested spectators at Melbourne Park when the 15-time grand slam champion undertook his first practice session at Rod Laver Arena.
In time, Charlene and Myla Federer may come to appreciate their father’s tennis prowess the way the rest of the world does, but they are a little young to understand that Daddy is a three-time champion at Melbourne Park and is therefore held in high esteem Down Under.
If Federer wins himself a fourth title here, then he will become the first father to win the Australian Open title since Andre Agassi in 2003.
Kim Clijsters and Austrian Sybille Bammer are likely to be the only two mums in this year’s Australian Open draw both could probably give Federer some advice on how to cope with being a parent and playing a grand slam tournament at the same time.
Clijsters became the first mother since Evonne Goolagong to win a major title with her US Open victory. She admitted recently that she spent the afternoon before her now infamous semi-final win over Serena Williams at Flushing Meadows watching the kids film Ice Age with her daughter Jada – hardly the usual preparation for a big match.
"It's fun and it's definitely helped me a lot, as well, as a tennis player,” Clijsters has said of being a mum. “I'm more capable of adjusting on the court and adjusting, you know, my emotions a little bit better and reading my emotions. I think that's something that's very important out there, especially in big matches."
Lleyton Hewitt is, like Federer, a father of two and he and wife Bec continue to balance tennis, life and kids. His daughter Mia is now four, while son Cruz is 13 months’ old. “I didn't affect my tennis (though) travelling and stuff is a little bit different, I guess,” said Hewitt of becoming a father.
“A lot of it's around what was best for the baby at the time more so than your preparation sometimes. That's just part of it. That's what you deal with. But then again, you go back to the hotel room and you're not thinking about tennis, scouting tennis as much. The kids don't care if you got a match the next day or not. It's a lot of fun.”
